EXHIBITION OF THE SPECIAL NOMINATION OF THE PICTORIC ILLUSTRATION CONTEST (PIC)
PICTORIC
For many people, freedom is something that should be a priori accessible and protected by law. But we see that in today’s world, personal freedom is becoming a symbol of responsibility, consistency of beliefs, democratic worldview. Illustration, as a medium capable of responding most quickly to social and cultural challenges, is becoming a visual platform where artists from all over the world can tell their own stories about the importance of freedom as a choice and the strength that remains even when circumstances limit our possibilities.
Within the exhibition of the Special Nomination of the Pictoric Illustration Contest (PIC), participants reflect various dimensions of freedom in their works: personal, social or symbolic ones. They explore such themes as dignity, resilience, inner independence, as well as the fragility of freedom and the efforts necessary to preserve it. This dialog of illustrators from different countries is extremely important for the Ukrainian community, which has been defending its freedom every day since the beginning of Russia’s armed aggression. The Ukrainian experience shows what an important role visual symbols play in this struggle, helping people bear their freedom.
