Oksana Zabuzhko is a writer and the author of more than thirty books across various genres, including poetry, prose, non-fiction, and cultural studies. She graduated from the Faculty of Philosophy and completed postgraduate studies in aesthetics at Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv. She holds a PhD in Philosophy and was for many years a researcher at the Hryhorii Skovoroda Institute of Philosophy of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. She is also an honorary doctor of Ivan Franko National University of Lviv.
From 1992 to 1994, Zabuzhko taught Ukrainian Studies at Harvard University, the University of Pennsylvania, and the University of Pittsburgh. She has also worked in journalism as a columnist and in publishing as a consultant.
Zabuzhko’s books have been translated into 25 languages and have received numerous national and international awards, including the Angelus Central European Literary Award (2013), the Taras Shevchenko National Prize of Ukraine (2019), the Stanisław Vincenz Prize of the City of Kraków (2022), and the Legion of Honour of the French Republic (2023), among others.
