DvaTry is a band from Kyiv and the surrounding area that performs traditional instrumental Ukrainian music from Naddniprianshchyna (a historical region in the central part of Ukraine, situated in the valley of the Dnipro River) and Polissia (a historical region bordering Belarus and Poland in the north of Ukraine). The band’s repertoire includes polkas, kozachkas, and other folk dances that our ancestors danced generations ago.
During their performances, DvaTry not only plays traditional dance music but also explains to the audience how these dances were performed in the past. One of the band’s key goals is to bring dance back into everyday life, even in a modern context. Ukrainian folk dances are simple and accessible. Although some elements may be more complex, overall, these movements are straightforward, and anyone can master them.
The band consists of Maria Kononchuk (first violin), Zakhar Davydenko (second violin), and Herman Klymenko (frame drum).
