THE “4TH BLOCK” ASSOCIATION OF GRAPHIC DESIGNERS
This project brings together posters selected from among the finalists and winners of the international “4th Block” triennials. It is not a retrospective, but rather a collection of visual statements in which different years, contexts, and artistic voices are woven into a shared conversation about the limits of freedom and the weight of responsibility.
The exhibition features 50 posters by designers from 17 countries around the world. Each poster is a reflection of reality, an attempt to capture the global situation and, at the same time, to influence it. This diversity of perspectives reveals a collective sense of time, in which freedom no longer exists without consequences, and action becomes its extension.
The exhibition is designed as a space of tension between people and the environment, between memory and the experience of the present. Here, images of ecological vulnerability—reminding us of the fragility of the natural balance—coexist with visual reflections of the Chornobyl disaster, which still shapes our understanding of responsibility as a historical and political choice. Alongside these are artworks created in response to the war, where freedom appears not as an abstract concept but as a daily practice of resistance.
The “4th Block” Association of Graphic Designers is a community of designers and art managers who work on social and environmental issues. It was established voluntarily to support and develop creative initiatives in ecology, design, and culture. The association’s key activity is the “4th Block” International Triennial of environmental, social, and eco-educational posters. Since 1991, it has brought together designers from over 50 countries around the world and fostered a global visual dialogue on responsibility, sustainability, and environmental safety. The posters in the Triennial’s collection form the basis of exhibitions and art events in Ukraine and beyond, being both a tool for reflection and a catalyst for action.
