Faruk Šehić was born in 1970. Until the outbreak of war in 1992, Šehić studied Veterinary Medicine in Zagreb. However, then 22-year-old joined the Army of republics of BiH, in which he led a unit of 130 men as a lieutenant. After the war, he turned to literature. The literary critics regard him as the voice of the ‘mangled generation’.
Among others, his awards include EU Prize for Literature 2013 and XXXI Premio Letterario Camaiore 2019. His books have been translated into sixteen languages.
