His first literary novel, Les Bienveillantes, published in France in 2006, won the Prix Goncourt; it has been translated into nearly 40 languages, including Ukrainian. His first feature documentary film, Wrong Elements, was presented at the Cannes Film Festival in May 2016. He has also covered a number of conflicts for print media, including most recently the war in Ukraine (for Le Monde).
