Economist and sociologist, Boin was Director General of BIEF, an organization in charge of promoting French books abroad, for 17 years. Jean-Guy Boin has served in different capacities in the book industry, including as teacher and trainer in book publishing and book trade (at a university and in professional workshops), researcher on the economics of publishing, director general of a publishing house specialized in literature and humanities, chief of the Economics of Books Department at the Ministry of Culture and Communications since the day it was established in 1992.
Together with Jean-Marie Bouvaist Boin co-authored two books on small publishing houses (at La Documentation française) and has written numerous articles on the economics of publishing, book trade and distribution for Les Temps modernes, La Quinzaine littéraire, Livres Hebdo, Les Cahiers du SLF etc.
