ARTIYA CALLIGRAPHY SCHOOL, CHEBANYK FOUNDATION
The exhibition project consists of two parts: Verbalization and In Memory of V. Y. Chebanyk. It is complemented by an interactive workshop available to everyone.
Verbalization is an exhibition in which calligraphers explore the meanings that seek to find their way out into form. Using the plastic language of calligraphy and materials, they touch upon both the eternal and the great, as well as the everyday and routine that sustain our vitality today. This is a story about daily rituals, about the power of nature or the pulse of city life, about loved ones who help us accept reality, and about reality itself which screams about the pain of loss.
The exposition speaks what we keep silent about and shout, and what we lack words for, but what we are able to convey through visual means. Throughout the months of preparation, calligraphy has also become a form of therapy for its creators.
The exposition In Memory of V. Y. Chebanyk honors the legacy of the Master of Calligraphy, Fonts and Book Construction, an outstanding graphic artist and teacher whose work and personality are an inspiration to new generations. The exposition presents little-known reproductions of Vasyl Chebanyk’s early works, revealing his path of creative growth, his refined sense of form and plasticity, as well as his unique ability to bring images to life with the help of lines and strokes.
Vasyl Chebanyk’s contribution to modern calligraphy and graphics is invaluable, as Ukrainian artists still indisputably follow the traditions of his school.
The exposition In Memory of V. Y. Chebanyk was organized in cooperation with the Vasyl Chebanyk Charitable Foundation.
