WAR CHRONICLES: UKRAINE 2014–2025

WAR CHRONICLES: UKRAINE 2014–2025

EXHIBITION OF WORKS BY 35 UKRAINIAN PHOTOJOURNALISTS, PUBLISHED BY FOTOEVIDENCE UKRAINE

The documentary project was launched by FotoEvidence Ukraine in partnership with the Ukrainian Association of Professional Photographers (UAPP). It brings together visual stories from Ukrainian photographers documenting the war over the past decade—from the Revolution of Dignity to Russia’s full-scale invasion.

The project preserves historical memory and resists cultural erasure by creating a powerful visual archive to be published and distributed as a photobook in Ukrainian schools and libraries. These photographs tell the stories of destruction, loss, resistance and identity—about the ongoing experience.

In the context of the Book Arsenal’s theme, Everything Is Translation, the project translates pain, resilience and memory into the language of photography—the language that needs no interpreter, the one that connects communities, generations and cultures.

BIOGRAPHY

The Ukrainian Association of Professional Photographers (UAPP) was established in 2013 with a dual mission: to safeguard and promote the interests of Ukrainian photographers and to foster the growth and recognition of professional photography as a vital element of Ukraine’s cultural heritage. The Association has a proven track record of leveraging photography to influence society, combat propaganda, and promote Ukrainian culture.

FotoEvidence is a publishing house founded in New York in 2010 that plays a unique role in the photojournalism ecosystem as the only publisher of long-form visual stories dedicated solely to human rights and social and ecological justice.

After the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the FotoEvidence Association, in partnership with the Ukrainian Association of Professional Photographers (UAPP), has launched FotoEvidence Ukraine—an initiative to support Ukrainian photographers and contribute to the preservation of Ukrainian culture. This effort focuses on creating photobooks that document the Russian invasion of Ukraine since 2014, ensuring these records populate libraries and schools and preserve this history for future generations.

WAR CHRONICLES photobook is the result of this collaboration.
