Alona Penzii was born in 1993 in Kyiv. She got her MA degree in Film Studies at the Kyiv Karpenko-Karyi National University of Theatre, Cinema and Television. She researched the social political aspect in Ukrainian non-fiction cinema at the end of the 1980-s and the beginning of 1990-s. As a cinematography theorist, at the Dovzhenko Centre, she specializes in researching the history of Ukrainian non-fiction cinema, in particular animation, and works as a critic for LB.ua and Ukraiinska Pravda.
