The Dialogues exhibition

Calligraphy and typography workshop
ArtiYa Calligraphy School

Project curators: Alla Kalinichenko and Vitalina Lopukhina.

Project participants: Veronika Chebanyk, Vasyl Chebanyk, Viktoria and Vitalina Lopukhina, Kyrylo Tkachov, Dmytro Rastvortsev, Zakentii Horobiov, Anna Yehorova, and other calligraphy and typography artists, as well as students of the school.

The project by ArtiYa at this year’s Book Arsenal consists of an exhibition and a workshop.

For the Dialogues exhibition, calligraphy artists spent a month working with texts of contemporary Ukrainian poetry. The rethinking and living through these lines, which speak to us at the depth of our feelings, is embodied in a new visual narrative of a calligrapher on canvas.

Dialogues is about the interaction and cooperation between civilian artists and those in the military, contemporary poets and calligraphers, authors, and viewers.

Dialogues is also our bridge between the present world and the eternal. By recalling the texts of authors who are no longer with us, we preserve the memory of them, we experience this year’s Book Arsenal together with them, as we did a year ago, just like all the years before.

The calligraphy and typography workshop will operate not only as a professional and educational but also as a therapeutic and social program.

Over the past two years, it has become especially noticeable that learning calligraphy has a positive impact on people’s psychological state. More and more military personnel are studying remotely at the ArtiYa Calligraphy School. There is calmness and balance in calligraphic practice. There is aesthetics and creativity in writing words.

Each visitor will have the opportunity to write postcards that will be sent to our defenders.

A dedicated exposition presents new typographic projects by Ukrainian designers created in 2023-2024. It is intended for publishers, designers, and anyone who chooses a font for printed or digital text.
