OBOLONYA. ILLUSTRATORS’ WALL

OBOLONYA. ILLUSTRATORS’ WALL

COMMUNITY OF ILLUSTRATORS ILLUSTRACTOR

Obolonya. Illustrators’ Wall is an inclusive exhibition of promotional posters designed to draw attention to the works of talented Ukrainian illustrators.

The initiative originated in 2019 at the 9th Book Arsenal, when the idea of creating the illustrators’ wall was proposed by Oleksandr Komiakhov, an illustrator, comic artist, founder of the Illustractor community and now a military serviceman.

The name Obolonya is a playful allusion to the Wailing Wall at the Bologna Book Fair, where hundreds of illustrators attach their business cards, postcards and posters in the hope of attracting publishers’ attention. At the same time, it echoes with the sound of the Kyiv district of Obolon, creating a witty language game.

To participate in the project, illustrators were asked to design a poster with their illustration and contacts or links to their website or social networks.

The Illustractor community and all participants are sincerely grateful to the 24Print printing house for its long-term support of the initiative and assistance with printing.

Project curator: Olha Protasova.

The community of illustrators Illustractor is an online community founded by Oleksandr Komiakhov in 2014. Initially created for a narrow circle of colleagues who knew each other, the group currently has more than 13 thousand members: illustrators, artists, designers, animators, art editors and art directors, publishers, etc. Although it has no formal status, Illustractor, nevertheless, effectively contributes to unification, exchange of experience and even establishing ethical standards of interaction in the industry. It is a platform for discussions and debate, where you can also share a fresh project, find an illustrator or a customer.
